the provocative article by Gerald Segal "Does China matter?" (published in
Foreign Affairs, Vol. 78, No. 5, pp. 24-36, 1999(Sep./Oct.) an excellent
reading for American/European students. Attached please find a paper
titled: "China: A Third World Country or the World's Second Largest
Economy?" which I have just written to respond to the interesting points
brought out by Segal. Your comments/suggestions will be most appreciated.
