Could someone please tell me why in the USA you say 'applesauce' and not
'apple sauce'? This has puzzled me for years. For as far as I recall, you
do not say any other kind of sauce all in one word - so why 'applesauce'?
Well, there was this guy named Johnny Appleseed and one day while he was
doing his apple planting thing when he ran into Mike Fink, who was in his
sauce and mistook Mr. Appleseed's name for Applesauce or not.
A bit like asking why kerb is spelled kerb, is it not?
