I feel I must say that this is John's interpretation of it. Some would view
the same facts a little differently.
You may like to read Bede (there are some good translations around if your
Latin is rusty), and see where you find yourself in it.
And -in a lighter vein - one of Peter Tremayne's 'Sister Fidelma' detective
novels actually has a murder at the Synod of Whitby
