Dear Vera,
Firstly, I don't think we can take for granted that the butterfly is a
symbol, and not just a factual event.
Secondly, surely symbols have many potential meanings? How we interpret them
may show more about our state of mind than the actual symbol.
Thirdly, I read the freeing of the butterfly as a long-deferred act of
compassion, and that seems to me a more obvious reading.
