and hear their oohs and aahs and laughter rise
as ribbons, apples, shiny red, and crayons
chalks and bits and pieces she had made
roll around their happy threadbare room
just like an angel's promised smile.
At my age, I look back on those Christmases and wonder if we should not
return to them, put Toyr-R-Us out of business.
