worth looking around the (rather ugly) site as ListServe - the JISC robot -
is fully featured and will allow digests, suspended mail, etc. God knows -
I can't understand it! J
The National Academic Mailing List Service
General Information
Most list facilities are available via the JISCmail Web at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/. We recommend using the web interface as it is
much more intuitive and user-friendly than the email route.
Web Password
You will need a password to access the LISTSERV web for private (closed)
lists. To register a password go to the JISCmail home page and follow the
navigation provided.
Using Email
The most generally used functions available via email are described below.
In all cases replace LISTNAME with the name of your list which need not be
in capitals. If you use a signature file or "footer" when you send email
messages you will need to stop JISCmail processing it. Therefore, on the
line below the command type two minus signs:

This will return a list of all JISCmail lists. The search facilities on the
JISCmail web may be more helpful.
To get list details, including list name, title, description, and list of
members if the list is open to review
review LISTNAME
To get details of your subscription options for a list
query LISTNAME
File and Archive Management
To get a list of files and archives belonging to a list
index LISTNAME
To get a file or archive belonging to a list
get LISTNAME\filename.filetype
Both archives and files associated with lists can be viewed via the list’s
LISTSERV front page www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/listname.html
