Hi folks,

Here's a new one for c&c:

~*~

Smithsonian Weasel
(Phrases from an article by Richard Conniff, Smithsonian; 2/97)

     You can call him hungry
always on the lookout
overlooking The Singing Way

     The secret lives of weasels
like small bolts of brown lightning
the metabolism of a hip-hop dancer
on a caffeine bender
from our popular culture
Too quick for most people

White in winter known as ermine
smarmy tassel-shoe traits
blessed with lithe bodies
flat skulls elongated necks
a mouse like a spear
aware of the underworld
beneath their feet
grass spangled with dew

     Both manic and systematic
demented and thorough
The reputed Dance Of Death
A lunatic suddenly sane
latching onto victims
unto death and beyond

     Dissections of weasels
commonly reveal masses
of bright red worms
packed into tiny cavities
within the bone behind the eyes

     Failing on the perilous edge
of right-sizing
straight to something juicy
like delayed implantation
A phenomenon of suspended animation
often bearing gifts of food
to elicit sexual favors

Driving past a menagerie of pubs
The Hungry Horse
The Dandy Cock
The Beehive
on the back of the weasel
Godsend to the countryside

     The Waltzing Weasel
Something enormously satisfactory
to have a drink with.

~*~
