Maybe GMH was a little _too_ original in his approach?

Thanks very much, everyone; I'm very pleased you like this.
Bob, I'd give pretty well the same answer as Joanna and Roger regarding
your questions on iambic pentameter. The key is the stresses, not the
syllable-count (although you do come across purely syllabic sonnets
occasionally).
It's legitimate to vary from strict IP from time to time, I believe, so
long as you do it for a purpose. L2 varies in my sonnet.
Somebody once said that all metre is a compromise between reader and
writer.
Good point about "I wonder": I'll fix that.
Roger, I'd add GM Hopkins to your list, for a really original approach to
metre and stresses.
Best regards,
David
