listen son
I'm getting on a bit now
and I'm afraid I'm going to die ignorant
there are so many things
I always wanted to know
things I wanted to ask my father
things about his father
but you know
we never had that many moments
when we came to this country
both of us had young families
and we had to work
before that it was chaos
in the years after the war ended
the only times we'd touch on these things
was with friends or family
around to celebrate an occasion or to visit
and there was hardly a chance
to go into all of it then
there's no-one left
now the old man is dead
I am the last
there isn't anyone to ask
anyone that remembers
I need to tell you a story
from when I was a young man
not much more than a boy really...
