New Eco-Design Conference - First For South East’s Manufacturers

SEEBA, the South East Environmental Business Association, has announced
details of its very first conference. To be held on 28 June 2001 at the
London home of sponsors the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE),
the conference, 'Eco-design for Competitive Advantage', is aimed
specifically at the region's manufacturing industries. It is co-sponsored
by SEEDA, the Environment Agency, the Institution of Electrical Engineers,
the Printed Circuit Industry Federation and innovation strategy
specialists, PERA. Delegate places cost just £50 and can be booked by
contacting 01252 892772.

A panel of international speakers, including Professor Ab Stevels of
Philips Consumer Electronics (Netherlands), will lead delegates through
topics such as eco-product development trends and drivers; lead-free
soldering solutions; and eco-design management and the supply chain. UK
businesses will be well represented with addresses by senior personnel
from Honda and Unipart, amongst others.

SEEBA, an initiative of The Centre for Sustainable Design based at The
Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College, is the South East's
green business club, focused on 'producer responsibility' issues in the
electronics, automotive and packaging sectors. Its work is geared
exclusively to the needs of business within the region, providing a forum
for knowledge exchange and dissemination.

Co-ordinator of SEEBA, Professor Martin Charter, said, “This first
regional conference marks a coming-of-age for SEEBA and reflects its
growing stature. Its aim is to provide the South East's manufacturing
businesses with the knowledge they need to stay one step ahead in the
rapidly moving world of eco-design.”

Further information on SEEBA can be found on the website of parent
organisation, The Centre for Sustainable Design, at
www.cfsd.org.uk/seeba/index.htm. For information on this and other
projects of The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College
please contact Professor Martin Charter on 01252 892772.

Ends.
