Hi, Peter:
(1), if the spm 'quit' button still visible, click on it (it is
at the lower right cornor of the upper left window)
(2), bring the matlab command window to front, while your mouse on that
window, control C to stop
(3), open an terminal, issue the followings
ps -def |grep matlab
kill -9 xxxx
where xxxxx is the PID (process ID of the running matlab)
Be careful on this!!!, you may kill matlab licese manager or matlab
sessions other than yours
