take a look at this:
http://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~poldrack/spm/truncate_img.m
it takes as arguments the name of the original file and the name of the
new file to be created. if you don't give it a third argument it will
show the histogram and then ask you for a cutoff value, otherwise it
will use the third argument as the cutoff.
