The rendering function in SPM99 is for superimposing results onto
pre-rendered surfaces. When it asks for an SPM.mat it is actually looking
for the results of a previously done statistical analysis. For more
information, see section 5.3 of:
http://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/course/manual/misc.htm
It will also ask for a render*.mat file. You will find pre-prepared versions
of these in the SPM99 distribution. Alternatively, you can create your own
using the <Xtract Brain> option.
