if the file is called "snra1.img", do the following:
spm_vol('snra1.img')
this will spit out the header information, including the following:
descript: 'spm - 3D normalized - conv (8,8,8)'
which to my knowledge means that the image was normalized and then
smoothed (convolved) with an 8mm isotropic Gaussian kernel.
