Institute of Child Health, University College London,
and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust
Cognitive Neuroscientist
in the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Unit
The Institute of Child Health/ Great Ormond Street Hospital is seeking to
appoint a post-doctoral cognitive neuroscientist to carry out full time
research into functional and anatomical reorganisation of memory after
temporal lobe damage. Working with a team of investigators, the successful
candidate will be studying the relationships between temporal lobe
pathology and functional outcome in a cohort of children and young adults
who had sustained perinatal damage to the medial temporal lobes or who
underwent surgical treatment for the relief of intractable epilepsy. A
variety of different methods such as neuropsychological evaluation,
quantitative analysis of MRIs, and cognitive ERPs will be used to establish
the relationship between brain pathology and cognitive dysfunction. The
project is part of a collaborative effort to compare the age-dependent
limits of plasticity of the developing and mature human brain. The
successful candidate will be expected to have previous experience in one or
more of the following research areas: neuropsychology/ cognitive
neuroscience, neuroimaging, cognitive electrophysiology. The research
involves close collaboration with the magnetic resonance research group at
the Institute and Hospital, where there is a 1.5 Tesla Siemens "Vision"
system funded specifically for investigations of brain disease in childhood.
This appointment is for a period of 3 years (funded by the Volkswagen
Foundation), and provides a unique opportunity for a young, energetic, and
talented neuroscientist to work in a highly interdisciplinary clinical
academic setting within a major tertiary referral centre.
