Hi Ken,
Are you using a Pentium 4 machine? If so, MATLAB does not support it yet
and you will run into all sorts of errors. I have had an awful time
trying to deal with all of the problems with R12 and the Pentium 4.
Hopefully that is not your problem, I have switched back to a slower
Pentium 3 to avoid those issues for now.
