Christian Wolmar- widely seen as the Rail Industry’s “Oracle”- will
deliver the
2nd Ken Child Memorial Lecture
“The Railways- what next?”
Tuesday 11th December, 2001, 7-8PM
Committee Room 2
Manchester Town Hall
This is the second lecture in memory of the late Ken Child, former
member of the Manchester Civic Society, and founder Secretary of GMTAG.
The rail industry has barely been out of the headlines recently, given
the collapse of Railtrack, safety fears, etc. Christian Wolmar’s
opinions have widely been called upon of late in television interviews.
Now you can hear, and speak to, the man himself. The rail industry
uniquely epitomises all the failings of past Government doctrines- state
monopolies, privatisation, etc. and is now becoming an important
political issue in its own right.
There will be an opportunity to buy copies of his latest book Broken
Rails after the lecture and Q&A.
Christian Wolmar is a writer and broadcaster specialising in transport.
He has a fortnightly column in Rail magazine and contributes to a wide
variety of other publications including The Independent, The Independent
on Sunday, The Express, The New Statesman, and Public Finance.
