Well, I'm not quite sure whether or not the last email was
meant to be circulated, but it was certainly fun to read.
I myself went up to the Science Communicators Forum at
the BAAS on Thursday, in response to the email circular
on this mailing. I have to admit that most of the talks
were informative and interesting and the theatrical session was fun.
However, it was just 'us talking to us about how we can engage them'.
In fact, I'm relatively new to this game, and didn't know
many of the folk there, except a notable Cambridge astronomer,
and didn't know any more folk when I left. I said 'hello, I'm Pisces'
to a lot in the theatrical session, which was very useful.
For the rest of the day, I sat and listened, and was
not engaged, maybe I had just drunk too much the night before?
Even the sessions which claimed they wanted a 'discussion'
ended up with a lecture, followed by a few questions.
I hoped to meet a few 'faces behind the names' of the folk
who frequently voice opinions on this mailing, but the
opportunity did not avail itself. I'm not sure whether or
not I'd go again, it was a long way, a long day, and I'm
very busy, but Glasgow is a beautiful city in the sunshine.
I think it was worth it, just once, but I felt disapointed.
I've participated in the Edinburgh Science Festival and
that seemed a much more 'vibrant' affair.
Helen.
