But as a final thought: Frost's dictum is in essence a capitalist
regurgitation is it not? it's about confining us to the endless novelty of
regurgitation and the "safety" in recognition. We glimpse ourselves and
rest
assured in the knowledge that cliché is an odd kind of stability. Stasis in
the factory of novelties.

Chris,
apropos of Frost, surely his statement about 'the shock of recognition'
could apply to individuals under any political system. For me, what he's
saying is about 'opening up' ways of seeing rather than confining us to
endless regurgitation. In fact, there mightn't be any safety in
'recognition' as Alison has pointed out, apropos of great theatre that
moves and shocks people. Great poetry should do the same, hopefully. . .
Best wishes,
Katherine
