A bit strong, Ali? I note it seems to be in fashion to run Omeros down -
every reference I've seen to it recently in poetry magazines etc has been
negative. I love the poem, though I can see flaws in it (but what modern
epic is flawless?) I'd like to ask those who have criticized it to be more
specific. Of course they have every right to ask me to specify what I like
about it, but I'll wait till I'm put on the spot, as I'm tired tonight.
Incidentally, I've never really taken to Walcott's other work.
