Hi Ali
I'm only replying because it seems rude not to but I'm feeling too worn out
by work today to engage properly with your post. My reaction was pretty off
the cuff but briefly, I was thinking of hero -less rather than a negative
hero and I guess I was thinking of myth in terms of patterns of events which
may be re-enacted and the hero as an agrandising (is that a word? sorry, but
you get what I mean) of human action which, in contemporary terms, might no
longer be sustainable. But I'm neither clear nor sure of this. My usual
state. I take your point about the hero - quest although I feel that modern
versions of this (and perhaps modern isn't the right word either, I should
probably also refer to other cultures)but there's something about the quest,
its linear qualities perhaps, the idea of progression, that suggests a
culturally loaded program. And yet, that's not quite right either.
I did mention that I wasn't feeling the best? I'm better at questions than
answers. Apologising too much. Again, as usual.
best,
Geraldine
