I have also been concerned at the reaction to Daniel's posts. He got backed
into a corner early on in the discussion, and some of his arguments showed
it, but that's no reason to treat him as persona non grata. (Without knowing
exactly what he said backchannel, I can't say if this may also be excuseable
on similar grounds.) Some new members of this list have jumped in a little
too eagerly and aroused a sort of herd instinct which *is* anthropologically
interesting - remember egg? I thought he got what was coming to him, since
he was all too obviously playing the part of the young buck (or bull or
whatever) out to grab the leadership for himself. I think it's time to close
the discussion and give Daniel another chance.
Best wishes
Matthew
