In the past I've had troubles with dubious/aggressive/unwanted
back-channelers (it just means mailed direct to an individual's address,
rather than to the list : 'front-channel', Debbie) from various lists I've
been involved with and I have a simple policy - as messages I have from
established, trusted back-channel correspondents go straight into named
folders, those from unexpected sources appear in my general Inbox. If I have
any reason to doubt the welcome nature of the content - I keep my viewing
pane closed as default - I simply delete the intruder without opening it -
which is what I did to the single back-channel I had from Daniel. It has
done wonders for my piece of mind as some things I have had in the past have
been quite distressing.
It's like being wary of opening the front-door to strangers at midnight.
