while I find this quote (from where?) thought provoking, nostalgia aside,
the implication is
that there is a schism between commerce and creation.
That is, that the two are somehow at odds with one another.
Is The Beginning of the music-product the finding of the stone that you use
to knock against another? Did tribal musicians makeš their sounds because
they used found objects? (tangent: What is the difference from an ancient
musician employing the sound of water and Tan Dun buying a bottle of Poland
Springs to pour over rocks?
If we are going to ride out the idea that it is somehow better to find than
it is to purchase: There is a rabbinical saying something like the heart of
the convert is much purer than the heart of the jew born into the
religionš...the convert having come to Judaism Actively. Is the artist in
2001 using found objects purerš than the one who did it because he had no
choice)
One way or another a musician curates the system of sounds that is within
their range of production. (vocal modes too)
is the meaning of the quote really that there is a schism between curation
and creation?
curation is a constant process/aspect of creativity. is the creative
process different now becasue we invented money? (Picking back up on the
grammer thread- Is the creative process different in Chinese?)
there is a finite beginning for the creation of music?? and that beginning
is located in space or time??
