I'm pleased to announce that the Poetryetc Featured Poets series is about to
resume under the sponsorship of Chris, Alison, and myself. Each of us will
be selecting and introducing our own "line" of poets, who will provide a
selection of their representative work and whose featuring will often
coincide with the publication of a new book. Immediately following each
Feature posting will be another post presenting an e-interview by one of us
with the Poet. We're hoping that this format will stimulate discussion of
the Features as they appear, since these have sometimes come and gone with
no comment from the list, which must make the Poet feel as if the Feature
has landed with a thud. The Features will appear about once a month (maybe
revving up to twice-monthly if we can get our act sufficiently together),
with each of us alternating the presentations of "our poets."
First up will be UK (and poetryetc) poet Matthew Francis, who currently
lectures in creative writing at the University of Glamorgan in Wales, and
whose second collection, DRAGONS--out this month from Faber & Faber--was
recently featured on a Radio 3 broadcast. It will be my pleasure to
introduce Matthew's selection of Feature poems and to interview him about
both DRAGONS and his previous, award-winning Faber collection of 1997, the
critically acclaimed BLIZZARD. I'll also be talking to him about his novel
WHOM and other forays into fiction--but without asking him about (oh,
brother!), you know....
