Is it? Afraid Ned Kellyism bores me to snores but if it's a good book then I
guess winning the Booker must be a beautiful thing.

*Port* Fairy would be about right.

Ah the Dan O'Connell. Would that be the one in Melbourne or is there a grand
original somewhere that you're thinking of? I did a reading there once and
was heckled by some pissed newt because he thought a poem I was reading was
putting down men. Poor sod - it was (a) ironic and (b) about a woman, if it
was about anything. Besides, it was my greatest hit. Needless to say I have
only been there that once.
Looking back, the above sounds a bit bah humbug. Not meant to. Just got off
a plane.
And apropos of nothing, I've been on the verge of re-reading my battered old
copy of William James so maybe I should do it. Vygotsky was never available
for purchase so I merely borrowed it from Fisher all those years ago. And my
nearest and dearest did her PhD on Piaget (anti-Piaget I believe) so I
suspect these days he's not allowed in the house.
And I think 'fantastic' or 'cool' would be just fine for Thalia Zedek. Her
song '1926' is fab. Last night I was sitting alone late in a hotel room and
had a grand time listening to totally cheap musical pleasures at low volume
on a cheap clock radio phone thingie whilst writing - one of those Saturday
night trashy 1980s 'classics for your party' radio programs. I have to say
it's been years since I'd heard Eyes Without A Face and Rebel Yell or, for
the Australians, I Hear Motion and Sons of Beaches. 'In the midnight hour
she cried more more more' indeed.
Just catching up - been in Brissie for a few days at writers fest and
Subverse poetry fest.
best to all,
Jill
