XXI WORLD CONGRESS OF POETS 2001 SYDNEY
7-11 OCTOBER, LANDMARK PARKROYAL HOTEL - POTTS POINT
and other venues.
The theme of the Congress is:
Poetry for World Peace in the New Millennium
The World Congress of Poets is not a political organisation and poets from a
diverse range of languages, ethnic groups and nations will be participating.
Over 200 poets from Overseas and Australia are participating. Everyone is
welcome and the theme is particularly timely, given recent events.
The organising committee includes indigenous poets and bilingual poets who
write in Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Polish, Spanish and Turkish. The
Committee believes that through the arts, and poetry in particular, we
creatively explore our relationships with each other and our environments.
The Congress is an opportunity to read, listen and interact with poetries
from other cultures and Australian poets writing in languages other than
English who rarely get the opportunity to participate in literary events.
Overseas guests came from a wide range of countries and languages, and
include, Iftikhar Arif (Urdu), Hanan Awwad (Palestine), Jozef Baran
(Poland), Amarendra Chakravorty (Bengali), Kwungsoo Cho (Korea), Grevel
Lindop (England), Gombojav Mend-Ooyo (Mongolia), Nemesis Moreno (Uruguay),
Lydia Parada de Brown (Bolivia), Li Qing (Hong Kong),Lian Yang (China).
