I would second that, Lawrence. Yang Lian spent some time in Australia back
in the late 1980s, I think, and Mabel Lee translated a couple of his books,
The Dead in Exile and Masks and Crocodile. He read from them, with Mabel
translating, at the Sydney Writers Festival in 1990 (just checked the book
he signed for me - always date your book signings, I say). He spoke about
his work as well and I enjoyed it very much.
I hope to hear him again probably at the World Congress of Poets - at which
I also will be reading if anyone is in Sydney around 7-11 October.
Definitely - go and see him!
Best,
Jill
