I am worried as ever about the issues of cultural relativism,
particularism, which bring about the notion of Father-land, Mother-land,
Home-land, and so on, ideas that do not regulate my life and that I deeply
reject.
I can see the value of different languages, different form of art and
different rituals, different philosophies of life, anthropologically and as
a manifestation of differences in the geography of men.
But I oppose with the same energy all the beliefs, local laws,
confinements, taboos that come along with such a home-lands' particularism.
If one takes the due distance from a geographic area as to acquire a view
from the above, one sees that everywhere one poses one's eyes and
attention, individuals are prisoners of their societies, and one
understands that we have been all kidnapped by the very laws prehexisting
our birth, which transcend the our clear will as individuals (as one reads
in Kafkas' Metaphorphosis).
Although I would welcome it, I do not see at present any factual
possibility that there might be a global organism regulating the chaotic
and destructive neighbourwood of States.
I think it is good that we have the European Union, here. I feel to be more
European than Italian, but were I give the chance to possess no passport at
all, no nationality, in political legislative sense , I would be even more
glad. There are still resistences which I see as unsormuntable and that in
fact are so.
Religion, languages, philosophy, the arts even, ourselves, the entire
system of mankind , are all prisoners of the economical interests that
cluster our communities and states together or put them one against the
other in these kind of never ending expectation of war and devastations.
