Thanks guys, David, Douglas and Randolph(b-c)
The poem has been lurking in mind only for ages and I finally decided it was
time to get something on paper.
The old man, his BBC interview and the content of his tales were from life
when I was a youngster in wildest Berkshire. BBC Light Prog. I think. My
father was the landlord and the pub is now a private residence. The village
could no longer support five pubs!
As David said, it is difficult to get the Berkshire accent in a written
form. Perhaps that's why it seemed Hardyesque. Even might mean I succeeded
with it if that was the impression. I am normally a very Standard English
person, probably to the detriment of my work.
Cheers
Roger.
