Yes, well done that Robin!
I haven't been saying much on this subject on the list simply because, as
you might expect, I've been talking to Robin b-c- about it throughout. On
the matter of dtp's, like roger day, I do find MS Publisher unintuitive to
use, I did once produce a pamphlet using MsPub2, and i found that anything
over about 32 pages would start creating problems, it really seemed designed
for newsletter or brochure creation. I tried MSPub 97 on a DTP course and
learnt to hate it!!
Meanwhile, while Robin's being slaving over hot printers, I've been setting
up a new, unphysical website for the magazine, one that will be without
banner ads and will incorporate both the present and the forthcoming issues,
as well as all little Chides that are as yet no more than a twinkle in my
eye. I've been using WordPerfect 2000 as the initial mould for the text,
translating that into Trellix, WP2000 files keep their format in Trellix
better than those made in MSWord, exporting the Trellixed files to HTML,
then using Word97 to edit and tweak the source code, it's very handy for
that, and finally building the site in Dreamworks. If all that sounds
incomparably Byzantine, well it's the most glitch-free method for the
particular software I have.
Of course, it would be better still if I was au fait enough with HTML to
create the source mark-ups directly. One day, one day.
One othe point, originally the idea of a printed Chide was just for free
copies for local distribution for those who have no access to the Web, but
now it seems we have an authentic little magazine being born.
As well as the website, the rtf version and even a simple HTML book.
It all has the air of a rather Biblical injunction, as it goes forth.
Best
Dave
