... for a pamplet printed on A4 sheets (two A5 pages per side per sheet, and
centre-stapled) can be worked out on an Excel (or other) spreadsheet.
Essentially, you set up a 2x4 eight-cell block, with your last page in cell
one and your first in cell two, your second page in cell three and your
second-last in cell four.
Then add in the formulae. Thus Chide1 would begin:
68 1
2 67
=(A4-2) =(B5+2)
=(A5+2) =(B6-2)
Then you copy cells 5-8 as many times as is necessary and clever ole Excel
generates the pagination.
Generalises -- simply replace the last page/2nd last page in cells one and
four.
Seems to work (so far!).
I wouldn't have bothered to post this (you'd assume it would be general
knowledge) but [a] as far as I can see, it's not on the web -- I had to work
out the [admittedly simple] formulae from a physical eight-page-pamphlet
illustration there -- and [b] no one mentioned this when I posted my
original query.
[Incidentally, isn't there +anywhere+ on the Web with "An Idiot's Guide to
Self Publication, using your own computer and whatever printer you happen to
have to hand"? I feel I'm reinventing the wheel.]
So maybe it will be of help to some other poor mug in the same position as
me.
Or as Josie is no doubt tempted to say, "See why you should employ a
professional printer!"
Cheers
