“Trop longuement”
The kind of poem that has peace
for its theme and laments
its consumption (De pace ineunda)
or celebrates the entering
of peace at some prearranged but incommunicable
fragment of one's life (De pace inter reges inita)
I saw him appropriately
entering the Church penetrating the space
of my body
as a humanist poet with his historical flanks
wrapped in a white sacramental robe
to exploit the topic as a Petrarch
but more bourgeois in look
carrying the following titles:
Contre les Gens de guerre
Contre la guerre
Comment on obtiendra la paix
Il est tems de faire la paix
Plues de Guerres
O Charite’, Pite’, Misericorde,
Amour de Dieu, alez au parlement,
Montrez aux roys qu’ilz ne croinet Discorde
Qui a voulu guerre trop longuement…..
