I think Logan is acidulous & splenetic to the extent that his comments
often amount to gratuitous overkill. But why is this happening?
Because there are very few poets doing indie-crit. He's mining an
abandoned vein. Evaluative criticism. It's like the Winters/Blackmur
approach repeating as semi-parody. But I wouldn't call it
bombast.
I don't know, Candice, I guess I need to read JG again or something,
I never did read it too carefully because it put me off terribly,
much the same reaction other people have mentioned here, I think
I would repeat my/Logan's word for it, "bombast", often, when you
have these abstract words tossed into a long multi-parenthetical
comma-tose Longinian spiel, using the word "of" an awful lot, elided
into some Mandarinical scholastic drama which really doesn't have
much in the way of experiential toe-holds to latch onto...
she's the last poet I would call understated...Oh, I owe I-O-Way...
cheers from Rhode Island, home of the bubbler & big hair & other
down-to-earth things like Poe, Lovecraft, Clark Coolidge &
...&...Gilbert Stuart & Jackie O...
