yes, you're right alison. but i am not suggesting there weren't acts of
violence by indigenous peoples in australia, of course there were.
'military' actions as well. war was waged on various parts of the land.
revisionism re actions like the pinjarra massacre play this up in an
effort to re-position the horror, to create a sense of justification. so
the analysis and cultural deployment of these 'actions' and responses is
extremely sensitive...
and one might consider so-called 'criminal' acts by indigenous people in
the context of present day australian society as being acts of
resistance. but the 'chant of jimmy blacksmith' take on this can be
equally marginalising and offensive.
what i meant was that there is no overt programme of violence being
sanctioned publicly by indigenous communities.
