Re: supposed femininity of curves in painting - one shouldn't forget
late de Kooning - some of the most inviting and ebullient curves (and
pinks and fleshtones) ever painted.
Suggested summer (or antipodean winter) reading: a novel, The Amazing
Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. Norman Dubie's
collected poems, The Mercy Seat, are out, and several new books by
Frederick Seidel, whom I consider the finest living American poet. (The
Cosmos Poems is not his best work, but Life on Earth, as browsed in
bookstores, looks good - perforce I wait for the paperback. I hope no
one has missed Going Fast, My Tokyo, or his other earlier works.)
