Candice, Alison, all,
I have an Italian parable for what is on dispute.
Indro Montanelli, the "father" of all contemporary journalism, the most
committed of all right wings intellectual Italian writers, who was a
regular contributor of the right wing "Il Giornale", was given the sack,
seven years ago, at the respectable age of 83 approx, by Berlusconi - owner
of the journal, of course, - for having contested badly the journal policy -
.
Imagine, silly Berlusconi, who should have worshipped Indro Montanelli, had
he the micro-brain that he evidently lacks, gave THE SACK TO THIS GREAT
RIGHT WING INTELLECTUAL that even his most radical opponent, the Italian
communists, respect"!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indro Montanelli, after a life-time of political writing and commitment to
the history of Italy,(whatever was the angle, the perspecyive he wrote
fron) found himself redundant and with no money to sustain himself in his
old age. But what happened?
The white winged angels of the editorial board of "Il Corriere della sera”,
one of the most respectable Italian left wing news paper, offered Indro
Montanelli a page on his own...which he accepted.
Now, Indro Montanelli, the most radical right wing Italian writer and
journalist HAS A PAGE on his own in Il Corriere della Sera, one of the
official organs of the Italian socialist party. Watch the issue: Indro
Montanelli, in 1957, was the intellectual who had declared himself the
enemy of the Communist party: And note: Indro Montanelli has not tamed his
style of speech, neither does he sympathize with the left wing politique,
but he neevrthless has a space of his own to express his voice, his
opinion in the fashion he prefers , in this left wing famous news paper.
Now, it is clear that the reason for The Corriere della Sera to host Indro
Montanelli are very subtle and complex, and are not only generous ones. It
aims to show the principle of tolerance. If mature enough, we can accept
all sort of dialogue: there are people which break the rules of it for
reasons that are also of a dialectical nature. I think it is worth to keep
our mind open to whatever might even sound “intolerable”. Please, abolish
censorship. Visit “La stanza di Montanelli” (Montanelli’s Room) in the Il
Corriere della Sera.
