An idea of the "true" which O'Hara parodies, of course, in his poem (which
remarks on Mike Goldberg's painting "Oranges") titled "Why I am Not a
Painter".
My faint hope is that readers of Poetryetc will see my poem, "Why I Am Not a
Poet etc." as (partly) a conceit of sorts on the poignant futility of
fishing for a "voice." But, I hope, too, that in such ontological casting
there is recongnized a kind of empty-creeled beauty, a backlit aura of
sorts. Even if the Apple River is full of detritus.
