One of them could well have been a man, at least for one magical, bacchic
evening. Sappho *did* have a daughter.
Funny, in a recent big article in Harvard Magazine, Jorie Graham, sure to be
our Poet Laureate before the decade's out, "contrasts" herself (in a moment
of self-importance to rival any one of her infamous "Regard me, now, for I
am Jorie Graham" photos) to Sappho, by pointing out that, she, Jorie Graham,
has a daughter!
Ouch!
