Yup, the Mormons are so good at this biz that even the Jews defer to
them--and JewishGenWeb sites are spectacular! (Also, hilarious in some
ways--I love it that there's a group of amateur Jewish genealogists that
call themselves the Schtetlschleppers!) But the LDS is a little too
systematic for my taste, with their Family History Centers all over the
country, where you hgve to go to see your actual documents on microfiche.
(What they give you online is basically info. about what can be found in
those centers rather than the goods themselves, which other genealogy sites
now offer in the form of downloadable scans of the original records
themselves, viewable with a "Mr. Sid's" plug-in--which they also give you if
they're offering Census images, etc.)
I'm not sure that we're particularly well-organized for anything but making
a buck in these here ewe-be-nighted states, and I've certainly run across
plenty of links to Australian genealogical databases. If you or anyone else
wants them, I could put together a list for you pretty quickly and easily
(just back-channel me).
Cheers,
Candice
