Snakeskin enters 2001 with a rather special issue. We've received a
marvellous new batch of poems from Alison Brackenbury (Some of you in the UK
might have seen the recent TLS review of her latest Carcanet collection. It
compared her attitudes and craft with those of Edward Thomas.) the general
mood of the poems is elegaic. One that especially struck me is the poem for
A. Pennington, the Liberal party worker in Cheltenham who was killed when a
deranged man with a machete burst into the local MP's surgery. Alison knew
him, and pays him a fine and deeply sad tribute. Make sure you read "Morning
in the Shop" as well.
There's a good collection of other poems as well.
Can I remind you of the special issue in February, guest-edited by Jessy
Randall? It's for poems on the theme of Fathers and Fatherhood, and
submissions should ideally be in by about Jan 15th.
Happy New Year from all at Snakeskin.
George
