In Edmonton, the reading took place at one of the best independent
bookstores, Orlando Books, in its Room of One's Own upstairs. I'm happy to
report that the place was packed, to hear readings by 7 of Edmonton's
poets: BERT ALMON, E.D. BLODGETT, OLGA COSTOPOULOS, NIGEL DARBASIE, MARILYN
DUMONT, SHAWNA LEMAY and ALICE MAJOR. I happily MCed the whole thing, which
began with Blodgett reading three poems, each translated into a different
language & read by the translators. The mix was good, & kept the audience
happy and awake for the longer than usual time of the reading. I'd say
close to 80 people were there, a really good turnout for a cool Friday
evening.... Nice to be part of such a wide-ranging event...
