What are your thoughts on about an artist's sexuality? Does it matter if
they are queer or straight? What would you think about someone saying that
they had no sexuality at all? Do you think being queer would make the
person
a more diverse artist?
it makes a difference to _me_ that I am queer not straight
would being straight make me a more diverse artist?
dunno (not interested in finding out neither)
what _is_ the difference? Simple really - sex that is outside the
established order, a language that is not heard or understood.
How often queer people have the experience of saying to straight
friends/colleagues 'we went out with my _girlfriend_ last night' ..... 'my
partner is a translator and _she_ loves her job...... blah blah blah
And they just canthear you. The next day they say 'we thought you might
like to bring your partner to this get-together - can he come?'
You have long hair so you cant be a dyke. You have short hair but surely
it is just a fashion thing.
It is not possible to use or experience language in the same way if you are
queer. The norms dont work. The obvious isnt.
Not unique to us, but in my life a powerful determinant of my relation with
language.
Does it make me a more diverse artist? I write poetry. That's all I do
and all I ever have done. I wrote poetry when I was married to a man as
well.
Not sure any of this helps but since you ask
