I know what you mean about the journal system even
gettin' up onto web journals can seem more trouble
than its worth for unknown readership.

To turn to the question of 'need' funny how email
replies focus on the word you hadn't given over much
thought to. Though need I think is correct because
though you say all language objects rely on all the
others there is a sense in which this process is
dramatised in the epic. The use of the personal
address in the epics dramatises language and its
retelling. Given that Milton's sense of the Bible was
a lived real definite thing that today is less evident
in Anglican England, I think there need is completely
correct there was a 'need' for him to explain the ways
of god to man. I don't hold with the Blakian "of the
devils party" stuff thats Blake in rock star
controversy mode. S. Fish makes such a convincing case
about P.L. I've not the wit to refute it. Anyroad up,
writing for me is about constructing a place where
choice is limited to a point so restricted that
writing has to come out, like the build up of tension.
As such if I were to write an epic (a good idea, old
forms I think have lots of potential) I would ask what
are the list of things I can't write, in what does it
stop me from writing everyday type language.

An artist in England this week got oooodles of
publicity for crushing all of his possession, his car,
tv, furniture the lot, its taking him a week to
complete, he's doing it on Oxford Circus. I wonder if
what poets will have to do to get noticed is burn some
books! its only a matter of time before some one has a go.
