"One's own contingency" most definitely is a contradiction in terms. When I
was younger, earlier in my unpreparable biog, I used to think of it as if
objectively, with all the egoistic self-presumed undyingness of youth,
nowadays, I realise that contradiction applies to me, rather personally, on
very intimate terms, somewhat in ya face one might say, like a loudmouth
addressing you in a bar, and I must confess part of my daily reaction to
that is no more than rabid, craven fear. But an extended terror: as I dimly
wit that what applies to me does so to all others too.
Against which you can own all the rhyming dictionaries, all the portfolios
of self, even a second home in Barbados, but it won't give any chance of an
answer. Bugger knows what does, but we have to hunger after what tries to.
