and the interview are fascinating and provoking -
I enjoyed the discussion on translation, it's very illuminating. That
destructiveness RW mentions is true of all writing, isn't it? - it has
often struck me that writing is a "translation" of experience, of other
writings, and thus somehow inherently destructive (I've known people who
think of it as blasphemous and transgressive in the very act, though I
don't go that far). What is that impulse to transform into words? I've
sometimes wondered if it comes from a lack as much as an excess.
