Carlos, my grown-up kid, is in New York. He says he's feeling a little
paranoid, which isn't his usual style. This evening, for instance, when two
people left during a film he thought, "Maybe they've planted a bomb, maybe
I should leave." But he didn't: it was a very bad movie, so that's probably
why they left. So if the film was so bad why did you stay, I asked him. "I
didn't want to cause a panic."
So that means that if you're at a bad movie you have to stay, but if you're
at a good movie and someone leaves there's probably danger. Which may
explain why film attendance is down.
And now it's 18 days to Hallowe'en, and my guess is that New York will be
full of folks in desert robes and beards. In the age of anthrax if one such
has a goat in tow it's probably best not to pet it.
