Thanks for this, Martin. I really admire its modesty--its refusal of polemic
or willingness to stand astride some jostling points of view, which is how I
read the mixed idioms and associated cultural references. It's also plumb
full of music, with a pacing that seems almost scored, to my ear. And I see
lilies in your "ev'ry valley."
