Henry ~ I'm sure others will join me in saying that your absence from the
list will be regretted. I wish you would reconsider. When you say that the
list management's "mistake" in summarily ejecting Kent was "both unfair to
Kent and playing into his hands", I cannot follow you. At the time I gave
expression to my suspicion that the whole sequence of events was more or
less stage-managed (note: s-m) by Kent by calling him Faustinus. If this was
so, then the outcome was desired by him & not unfair, even if he indulges in
retrospective resentment. What's to be "bitter" about on your part? Of
course, if he was genuinely slandered & wronged, then one might feel anger,
rather than bitterness. I personally found him amusing & infuriating; I
wouldn't have chucked him out on the basis of what I know directly, despite
insulting remarks to Candice; but Candice & Alison did so on the basis of
what they, not I knew. I can't see how you can infer "personal animus" from
their behaviour ~ I remember when a calm had set in & Kent developed his
fishing poem & Candice wrote a very amicable laudatory mail. You don't do
that when there's personal animus, unless your tongue is very forked. But
anyone can understand the list managers getting pissed off by Kent's
"peremptory" attempt to force the list to follow his bearings without taking
account of the risks. Candice has already said that he may return in time,
as nobody gets the ultimately prejudicial chop. So what's the point of your
leaving?
All the best, Martin
