I'm intrigued by Jill's talk of no place to read in Sydney now. A few years
ago (well last time I was down there was 1996) there seemed to be a few.
Stephen Scobie & I (as Re: Sounding) were at one tavern reading arranged by
one of the poetry societies, with other readers. But I admit, we performed
our sound poetry mostly at universities, which I don't think a bad thing to
do, anyway. So, it was the same in other cities, moslt reading at unis.
Although in Brisbane, it was at the Queensland Writers centre, which was a
neat venue, evening reading, & winde & beer available, always a nice thing.
So is it just that the young slam-type poets have taken over these venues?
Or that the older poets no longer bother to do those kind of readings?
There seem to be enough festivals to take care of their readings?
Just wondering...

He saw the dark as a ragged garment
spread out to air.
Through its rents and moth-holes
the silver light came pouring.
